The Will Rogers Gardens offers year-round classes and workshops to help make your gardening easier and more productive. Many workshops focus on practical ways to reduce your lawn maintenance. Unless noted, all workshops and classes are free, but pre-registration is required.

Practical Pruning
Friday, February 6

Take the hassle out of timely landscape maintenance by picking up a few pruning tips in this free class.  Learning how to space plants and perform small-scale preventative maintenance can save time and money.  Registration is required by calling 943-0827.  Free.

Colorful Containers

Growing plants in containers is fun and easy with just a few basic rules.  Join park naturalists as they discuss plant choices, various containers and methods for success!    Registration required by calling 943-0827.  Free.

Landscape Planning
Friday  May 1 and Friday June 5
9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

A nice-looking but easy landscape requires a plan. Participants will learn techniques and tips to personalize their landscapes. Each session will be limited to 25 people to provide individualized attention. The June session will be a repeat of the May class.  Free, but registration is a must! Call 943-0827.

 

Plants, crafts and other garden treasures are just part of the Oklahoma Festival in the Park.

Festival in the Park
Saturday, June 13, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

The Will Rogers Gardens will transform into a gardener’s paradise during the Oklahoma City Council of Garden Club’s annual “Festival in the Park.” This
National Garden Week celebration will combine a plant and gardening materials sale with free horticulture
seminars, floral design and entertaining kids activities. Great for the entire family.

Public Landscaping
Friday July 17 and Friday August 7
9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

Learn the basics of caring for adopted parks and public areas. The class will cover the concepts of public landscaping and tips for success to create a low maintenance and colorful public space. Great for neighborhood associations or community groups! Free.

Water Saving Landscapes
Friday September 4
9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

Spending less time and money on watering the landscape is an environmentally friendly goal. Learn xeriscaping techniques, plant selections and proper watering practices for any style of landscape. Free.

"Perfect" Plant Picks
Friday October 2
9:30 a.m. - 11:30 p.m.

Success with plants can sometimes be confusing! In this class, students will learn about plants that are super easy to grow and maintain. The focus will be on offering a diverse selection of plants to accommodate different gardening styles. Free.

Fall Foliage Tour
Friday November 13
9:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.

Take an invigorating autumn hike through the Will Rogers Gardens. Brilliant crimson, gold and orange leaves are sure to line the paths through the Gardens’ specialty areas. Free.

Seasonal Wreath Making
Friday December 4
9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

Participants will construct their own wreaths, swags or other seasonal decorative items. Horticulture materials, wire and wreath forms will be provided. Participants will need to provide their own hand tools such as hot glue guns, scissors, etc. Enrollment is limited to 25 participants.

Free Drawing Classes

Second and Fourth Thursdays, 9:30 a.m -12:30 p.m.

Everyone is invited to register for drawing classes featuring various plants and objects from the gardens. Class participants are asked to bring an 18-by-24 inch drawing pad, ebony pencils, kneaded eraser, art gum eraser and a hand-held pencil sharpener. No drawing experience is necessary. Free.
