(February 2, 2007) - Three City Council members will run unopposed in the March 6 primary election. Ward 2 Councilman Sam Bowman, Ward 6 Councilwoman Ann Simank and Ward 8 Councilman Patrick J. Ryan drew no opponents during the three-day Council filing period that ended January 31.
In Ward 5, three candidates will seek the post being vacated by Jerry Foshee. They are George Washington, David L. Miller and Brian Walters.
A general election will be held April 3 if no Ward 5 candidate gets a majority of the vote on March 6.
City Council members serve four-year terms.
In Oklahoma City’s Council/Manager form of government, Council members decide policy issues and vote on changes to City ordinances while the City Manager handles the day-to-day operations of the City. The City Manager, Municipal Counselor, Municipal Judges and City Auditor report directly to the City Council while all other department heads report to the City Manager.
