(August 22, 2007) - Citizens are invited to a community meeting to learn about Oklahoma City’s proposed 2007 General Obligation Bond Program. The meeting will be held on Tuesday, August 28 at 6 p.m. in the Council Chambers on the third floor of City Hall, 200 N Walker.
Participants will get an update on the bond program, learn how bond projects are funded, chosen and sold and hear project overviews from Public Works, Finance, Parks and Recreation, Police, Fire and Transit. The meeting will end with a question and answer session.
If passed by voters in December, the 2007 General Obligation Bond Program could provide more than $800 million in long-term funding to improve or replace infrastructure including streets, bridges, traffic control, parks, drainage, police, fire, libraries, City facilities, transit and economic development.
More than half of the bonds, about $510 million, are currently allocated for street improvements.
The bond propositions were identified based on feedback from the 2006 citizen survey, council strategic priorities, city manager priorities, departmental priorities and impact on the operating budget.
A second public meeting will be held in early November.
The City Bond Election is tentatively set for December 11, 2007. For a list of currently proposed projects, log on to www.okc.gov .
