Senior Games registration deadline approaching

(August 10, 2007) - Only one week remains for seniors to register for the Oklahoma Senior State Games to be held in Oklahoma City September 6-13.  Athletes aged 50 and above may still register for up to 70 individual and team events through August 16.

The Oklahoma Senior State Games will take place at multiple venues throughout the metro area.  Men and women of all fitness levels can take part in a variety of athletic and non-athletic competitions, including archery, basketball, bowling, croquet, cycling, golf, tennis, racquetball, shuffleboard, softball, swimming, tennis, track & field and weightlifting, among many others.  Each event is categorized into specific age groups: 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80-84, 85+.  The top three age group finishers from each team or individual event will receive a gold, silver or bronze medal.

Creatively-minded seniors can also participate in the games through the Creative Arts competition.  Amateur senior writers and photographers will be able to submit their original, non-published works for judging and awards.

2007 marks the first time in the event’s 20-year history that the state games will take place in Oklahoma City.
