City’s revolving loan program benefits autism center

(November 30, 2007) - A revolving loan program designed to help businesses start up or expand in Oklahoma City was recently used to acquire property for Camelot, a residential treatment center that specializes in the treatment of Autism.

“Providing this loan to Camelot is a win-win for the City and an investment in our community,” said Mayor Mick Cornett.  “I applaud Camelot for their commitment to enrich the quality of life of children with special needs in our City and state.”

Camelot of Oklahoma’s residential treatment center is located on 10 acres and features tennis and basketball courts, a playground and wooded area.  The 36-bed center provides autistic children with specialized therapy and one-on-one care along with a school curriculum.  The children are given customized treatment plans, providing one-to-one staffing, education, and support to facilitate a successful return to family and community living.  The center is located at 3301 N. Martin Luther King.

“We are incredibly grateful to the City of Oklahoma City for their assistance throughout the development of our residential treatment center,” said Lindsay Shaw, Camelot of Oklahoma.  “We have an unwavering belief that every child we treat will reach their full potential.  This loan will help us continue to meet the needs of this special population of children here in Oklahoma and help them thrive and succeed.”

The Section 108 Revolving Loan Fund targets the Empowerment Zone area, which covers much of Oklahoma City’s core.  Businesses located in the Empowerment Zone can take advantage of tax credits and deductions.
