Public meeting set to discuss downtown street conversions

(January 10, 2008) - An open house will be held on January 28 to provide information to citizens and the downtown business community about the City’s plans to convert a section of downtown streets from one-way to two-way.

The come-and-go meeting will be held from 5 to 5:30 p.m. in the 10th floor conference room at Main Place, 420 West Main.

Streets to be addressed include NW 5 Street from Western Avenue to Walker Avenue and NW 6 Street from Western Avenue to Oklahoma Avenue.

The improvements are being made to reduce motorist confusion and aid traffic flow.

The conversion to two-way streets will begin in spring 2008, after 20 new traffic lights are installed and the streets are microsurfaced.

The $1.6 million street project is being funded through the general obligation bond issue approved by citizens in 2000.
