Storm debris cleanup begins second round

(January 30, 2008) - City contractors will begin their second round of storm debris pickup on Monday, February 4.  This will be resident’s final opportunity to have their debris picked up by Oklahoma City at no charge.

The second round, which is expected to take four to six weeks, will begin in neighborhoods that were picked up early in the first sweep.

Branches and limbs should be set within 10 feet of the curb.  Residents should make sure the debris does not cover gas or water meters and vehicles are not parked in the street in front of debris piles.

After the second pass is completed, bulk waste trucks will pick up debris during their monthly collection days.  The first four cubic yards is free, but residents will be charged $7.84 for each cubic yard over four.  Four cubic yards is estimated to be the size of two refrigerators.

Contractors are picking up an average of 1,500 to 1,800 tons of debris each day.  More than 65,000 tons have been picked up since the debris removal project began on December 19.

A storm debris map identifying the estimated pickup dates for each area of the City can be viewed at www.okc.gov.
