Storm debris pickup ends for neighborhoods

(March 19, 2008) - City contractors have completed storm debris pickup in neighborhoods, collecting more than 100,000 tons of debris from December 19 through March 14.

“Our contractors, Young’s General Contracting and Phillips & Jordan, did an amazing job cleaning up our neighborhoods.  They picked up an average of 1,400 tons of limbs a day,” Public Works Director Dennis Clowers said.

Any storm debris remaining in neighborhoods will be collected by bulk waste trucks on resident’s monthly collection day.  The first four cubic yards is free, but residents will be charged $7.84 for each cubic yard over four.  Four cubic yards is estimated to be the size of two refrigerators.

Young’s General Contracting has been retained to remove storm debris along the City’s 162 drainage channels in an effort to prevent flooding.
