Free landfill day for residential customers

(April 23, 2008) - Oklahoma City’s Solid Waste Management Division is offering its residential customers a Free Landfill Day from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 3 at participating landfills.  Commercial account holders or commercial waste haulers may not participate.

“This is a popular and convenient event,” said Jim Linn, manager of Oklahoma City’s Solid Waste Management Division.  “It’s a good opportunity to get rid of spring cleaning waste or storm debris at no cost and without waiting for Bulk Waste Day.”

Residents may drop off one load per household on Free Landfill Day using any passenger vehicle or a single-axle truck up to 1-ton and one trailer up to 16-feet.  A current original water bill (no photocopies accepted) is required as proof of residency.

Participating landfills are:

Acceptable items include appliances without FreonÒ or other refrigerants, furniture, carpets, mattresses and other items too large for Big Blue carts.  Bulk waste rules and regulations also apply to Free Landfill Day.

Please, no household hazardous waste, such as tires, oils, car batteries, dirt and rocks, propane tanks, pool chemicals, electronic waste.  For a complete list of unaccepted hazardous waste or information about its proper disposal, please contact the Household Hazardous Waste Collection Facility at 682-7038.
