(August 10, 2009) -
Residents interested in guiding the future growth and development of far
Northeast Oklahoma City over the next 20 years are invited to attend a
community meeting at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, August 18 in the Big Dipper Room at
Metro Technology Center, 1900 Springlake Drive.
City Planners will present a
draft of the Northeast Sector Plan during the meeting.
Work on the plan began
last year with input from the community and a volunteer plan team.
The plan addresses suburban growth and acreage development in far
northeast Oklahoma City over the next two decades.
The Northeast Sector planning area includes 101.6 square miles east
of I-235 and north of I-44 to the City limits.
“A lot of thoughtful
work has been put into this plan by the community,” said City Planner Aubrey
Hammontree. “The plan has a strong emphasis on preserving the rural
character and natural beauty of the Northeast Sector as new development
occurs.”
The Sector Plans are long-range
comprehensive plans focusing on the outlying areas of Oklahoma City. Plans
for the Southwest and Southeast Sectors have already been adopted, and the
Northwest Sector Plan will be finalized by the end of this year.

the draft plan can be found at
