The Will Rogers Gardens offers year-round classes and workshops to help make your gardening easier and more productive. Many workshops focus on practical ways to reduce your lawn maintenance. Unless noted, all workshops and classes are free, but pre-registration is required.

 


FREE DRAWING CLASSES


Drawing Class

In addition to monthly horticulture and gardening classes, the Will Rogers Gardens offers FREE drawing classes for artists just starting out, or those wanting to hone their skills.

CLASS HOURS:
9:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Second and Fourth Thursday
Every month - ongoing

Please bring:
 an 18" x 24" drawing pad; ebony pencils;
 kneaded eraser;
 art gum eraser;
hand-held pencil sharpener.

No drawing experience is necessary.

Pruning Perfection
Friday, February 1

Proper pruning can make plants healthier, and increase property safety. Class will emphasize pruning techniques to lessen yard waste and increase flower and fruit production. Registration required by calling 943-0827. FREE


Container GardeningDesigning Colorful Containers

Growing plants in containers can be fund and easy with just a few basic rules. This class will discuss plant choices, various containers and methods for success, plus lowering maintenance. Registration required by calling 943-0827. Free.


Creating An Urban "Wildflower" Simulation

Do you prefer the more informal look that a wildflower garden can bring? Join us to discuss the step-by-step process for locating, designing and maintaining your own wildflower bed that is easy and colorful. Free.

 

 

EARTH MONTH
Lunchtime Learning Series
These hour-long mini-seminars give you quick tips on how to make your garden or landscape eco-friendly. Each program starts at 12 noon and runs about an hour, so bring your brown bag lunch and get ready to learn. Part of the City of OKC's EARTH MONTH programs.

Spring Walking Tour

Enjoy the beauty and bounty of spring as we explore the bright colors of spring blooms throughout the Gardens. Cameras welcome, and comfortable walking shoes recommended. Dress for the weather. Free.

Floral Arrangement

Personal Flower Arranging
Friday, May 10

9:30 a.m. - noon
This fun session on basic flower arranging gives novices a chance to learn the tips of the trade. Participants bring floral material, vases, plus hand pruners and floral wire. Our educators will help you craft a floral design that suits your personal style and taste. Free.

 

 


Low Maintenance Landscapes
Friday, May 4
9:30 a.m. - Noon
Using native plants can reduce watering, pest and disease treatments, and assist in many other areas. Learn how to choose and design with natives. Drawbacks to using native plants will be discussed as well. Registration required by calling 943-0827. Free.


Festival in the Park

Festival in the Park
Saturday, May 18, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.

The Will Rogers Gardens will transform into a gardener’s paradise during the Oklahoma City Council of Garden Club’s annual “Festival in the Park.” This annual celebration combines a plant and gardening materials sale with free horticulture seminars, floral design, and entertaining kids activities. Great for the entire family.

Seminar Schedule:

Walking tours of the Will Rogers Garden will take place at 9:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. Please wear comfortable footwear. Tours are ADA accessible and open to persons in wheelchairs.

Take an invigorating autumn hike through the Will Rogers Gardens and newly-renovated Margaret Annis Boys Arboretum. Brilliant crimson, gold and orange leaves are sure to line the paths as we discuss the many trees and shrubs that are great for fall color. Comfortable walking shoes recommended.

Seasonal Wreath Making

Construct your own wreaths, swags or other seasonal decorative items. Horticulture materials from the Gardens will be provided. Participants will need to provide their own wreath forms, and hand tools such as hot glue guns, scissors, etc.  Registration required by calling 943-0827.
