After more than 50 years, the irrigation system on the south golf course at Lake Hefner is getting a much-needed upgrade.
The current system was installed in the 1950s and has multiple leaks, discontinued replacement parts and numerous valves that don’t work properly. The new irrigation system will reduce water consumption, improve system maintenance and enhance the overall condition of the golf course.
The south course will be closed from March 14 through July or August during the installation.
“There is a possibility that nine holes will reopen as the project is completed in phases,” said Sean Simpson, Golf Trust Specialist for the Oklahoma City Parks & Recreation Department.
“The benefits of this project will be outstanding,” said Brad Sliauter, Director of Golf of Lake Hefner Golf Course. “The newer system will allow us to better manage weed control and chemical application to the golf course and improve overall turf conditions.”
