Development impact fees approved for streets and parks

The Council voted Tuesday to establish new development impact fees to help infrastructure keep pace with growth in Oklahoma City. Local governments charge impact fees on a per-square-foot basis for new residential and commercial development projects. The fees are used to pay to build infrastructure needed to serve the new development. The adopted streets and parks impact fees range from 61 cents to 70 cents per square foot of new residential construction, depending on the location. Partial exemptions can apply for local private parks built by the developer if the park meets criteria for size and amenities. The adopted streets impact fees range from and 26 cents to $2.20 per square foot of non-residential construction, depending on the location.

Drain standing water and wear repellent to fight mosquito-borne diseases

Oklahoma City Emergency Manager Frank Barnes and the Oklahoma City-County Health Department updated the Council on OKC's efforts to fight mosquitoes, which are a threat every spring through fall in Oklahoma.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends using mosquito repellents with DEET, picaridin, IR3535 or oil of lemon eucalyptus (OLE or PMD). Essential lemon eucalyptus oil not formulated as a repellent is not recommended.

Drain standing water on your property to help fight mosquitoes at home. Mosquitoes lay eggs in standing water, and the larvae will hatch if the water isn’t drained or treated with larvicide.

You can report standing water on public property to the Action Center at okc.gov or by calling (405) 297-2535. You can report standing water on private property to the Oklahoma City-County Health Department online or by calling (405) 425-4347, (405) 425-4348 or (405) 425-4319.

The April sales and use tax report shows General Fund sales tax collections were 2.5 percent over the projection for the month.
