Public Works crews and contractors are working overtime to clear trees and limbs from City streets after this week’s devastating ice storm.
More than 120 crews are working 10 hour shifts until all lanes of traffic are open. The City has received more than 400 reports of trees blocking lanes of traffic since Tuesday.
Crews are prioritizing clearing trees from roads that are impassible and arterial streets like May Avenue, Pennsylvania and Western. Next, they will tackle neighborhood streets. To expedite their work, crews are cutting up the limbs and placing them behind the curb for later pick up.
“The damage to trees is catastrophic. Limbs are down across our entire 620-mile footprint,” said assistant Public Works Director Debbie Miller. “Our crews won’t stop until streets are clear.”
Residents can report limbs blocking the street to the City’s Action Center online at okc.gov/action or by texting 405-252-1053.
