Bradley Carter and Barbara Young will begin four-year terms on the Oklahoma City Council next week after victories in Tuesday’s runoff elections.
Councilman-elect Carter won the Ward 1 runoff, and Councilwoman-elect Young won in Ward 3. They will be sworn in to four-year terms at the beginning of the next Council meeting on April 13.
All election results are unofficial until certified by the Oklahoma County Election Board.
Also taking the oath of office April 13 for new four-year terms will be incumbent Ward 4 Councilman Todd Stone, who was re-elected with a majority victory in February’s primary election, and incumbent Ward 7 Councilwoman Nikki Nice, who was re-elected unopposed.
The City Council has nine members: the Mayor, who is elected citywide, and one member from each of Oklahoma City’s eight Wards. They serve part-time at the head of the City’s Council-Manager form of government. The Mayor’s annual salary is $24,000, and each Council member’s annual salary is $12,000.
The next scheduled City Council election is for Mayor in 2022. Elections are in 2023 for the Council seats in Wards 2, 5, 6 and 8. See a Ward map at okc.gov/WardMap.
