City tests and interviews for full-time positions July 18

Join the City of Oklahoma City’s next one-stop hiring event from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. on July 18 at 420 W Main St. in downtown Oklahoma City.

The hiring event is for the following positions: grounds maintenance operator, grounds maintenance operator trainee, industrial heat and air mechanic, code inspector, Utilities customer service representative and Utilities plant operator III.

All applicants must bring a state-issued photo ID and be prepared to start the background check process, which includes a drug test (if applicable). The entire process could take several hours. Validated parking is available in the Sheridan Walker Garage, 501 W Sheridan Ave.

Utilities plant operator III, grounds maintenance operator, grounds maintenance trainee and industrial heat and air mechanic positions

Candidates who wish to interview for plant operator III, grounds maintenance operator trainee/operator I and industrial heat and air mechanic positions can apply ahead of time at okc.gov/careers or apply at the event. Successful applicants may leave with conditional job offers or be placed on a hiring list.

Code inspector I and Utilities customer service representative positions

Onsite testing will be offered for code inspector I and Utilities customer service representative positions. To test, candidates must apply at okc.gov/careers by 11:59 p.m. on July 15, meet the minimum qualifications listed on the job description and be invited to test. Those who score at least 70 percent will be placed on a hiring list.
When: Thursday, July 18, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Where: 420 W Main St.

What to bring: A state-issued photo ID is required to test and interview.

How: Apply online by 11:59 p.m. on July 15 at okc.gov/careers. Then, attend the hiring event on July 18. Applicants for code inspector I and Utilities customer service representative will receive a testing time by email.

Be prepared to: interview, start the background check process, and undergo mandatory drug testing and physical examination if required by the position. The process may take several hours.

Parking: Validated parking is available at the Sheridan-Walker Public Parking Garage, 501 W Sheridan Ave.

The City will interview for the following full-time positions:

  • Grounds Maintenance Operator Trainee (Parks & Airports Departments, full-time, starting pay $16.62/hr)

    Employees perform different facilities and grounds maintenance tasks that use vehicles, mowing equipment, standard electrical and hand tools. Must have a valid driver’s license (Operator) to qualify.

  • Grounds Maintenance Operator I (Parks & Airports Department, full-time, starting pay $17.38/hr)

    Employees drive and operate different vehicles and mowing equipment, repair facilities and equipment, and use standard and gasoline-powered yard tools to maintain City grounds. Must have a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) to qualify.

  • Industrial Heat and Air Mechanic (Airports Department, full-time, starting pay $26.97/hr)

    Employees inspect, test, install or replace electrical wiring, clean, repair and replace worn parts, and repair heating, electrical and gas systems. Must have a valid driver's license (Operator) and a valid Oklahoma State Unlimited Mechanical Journeyman in air conditioning, process piping, refrigeration, heating, gas fitting, and sheet metal to qualify.

  • Plant Operator III (Utilities Department, full-time, starting pay $26.83/hr)

    This position helps deliver high-quality, potable water to the distribution network. Employees monitor equipment and chemical feed rates, record and compile data, train and supervise operations personnel, and monitor and ensure lab tests are accurately recorded. Must have a minimum of a valid Class "B" Oklahoma State Water or Wastewater Operator license for water or wastewater processes (depending upon assignment) and a minimum of a Class “B” Oklahoma State Water Laboratory Operator license for drinking water or Oklahoma State Wastewater Laboratory Operator license for wastewater (depending upon assignment).

The City will test for the following full-time positions:

  • Code Inspector I (Development Services Department, full-time, starting pay $22.61/hr)

Employees exchange codes and ordinances information with residents, investigate complaints and conduct inspections, verify and enforce municipal licensing requirements, research and compile property and land use information, and prepare reports. Must have a valid driver’s license (Operator) and must obtain a valid Oklahoma Code Enforcement Certification within one year of hire/promotion/transfer/demotion to qualify.

Employees act as an informational resource to residents and customers, answer questions, respond to complaints, process transactions, maintain customer account records, review documents, and enter and verify data.
