Police Department MenuInvestigative Units
The Oklahoma City Police Department has several investigative units which specialize on specific types of crimes. Our department is able to better serve the community by having its detectives become specialized and experienced in their respective investigative fields. Persons and Property Crimes fall under our Investigative Bureau which includes everything type of crime to be investigated, from simple petty larcenies to homicide cases. The Investigative Bureau is comprised of 20 supervisory lieutenants, 140 detectives and 50 civilian personnel. A deputy chief, police major and four captains manage the Investigations Bureau.
Special Operations includes various specialized investigative units such as Criminal Intelligence, Office of Professional Standards, Special Projects & Major Violators and Violent Crime Apprehension Team. These units focus on organized crime, large scale drug cases, and human trafficking. The Office of Professional Standards looks into allegations of misconduct and complaints. The professional conduct of our police officers is very important to public trust and overall confidence in our department. Any and all formal complaints are thoroughly investigated by police supervisors. Special Operations Units report directly to the Chief of Police.
