The UnitedHealthcare® Group Medicare Advantage National PPO Plan is a Medicare Advantage plan that delivers all the benefits of Original Medicare (Parts A and B), includes prescription drug coverage (Part D) and offers additional benefits and features. It is not a supplement plan and does not pay secondary to Medicare.  All claims are submitted directly to UnitedHealthcare for payment, not Medicare.

What is a Medicare Advantage Plan?

This is a health plan, offered by a private insurance company and approved by Medicare.  It is an alternative to the original Medical Plan.  When you join a Medicare Advantage plan, you continue to participate in Medicare Parts A and B.  However, instead of paying Medicare deductibles and coinsurance charges you pay health plan premiums, co-payments and co-insurance.   This health plan is very attractive to retirees.  Monthly premiums can be much less than other plans and co-payments/co-insurance are more affordable.

Who is eligible for the Medicare Advantage Plan?

Retirees may elect individual coverage or retiree and dependent coverage.  Dependent coverage options available include a retiree and up to two dependent(s) as long as all participants have Medicare Parts A and B and maintained continuous coverage under a City-sponsored medical plan since the time of retirement.

Highlights include:

  • No Deductible - Low Copayments for Office Visits and Prescriptions

  • Nationwide Access - You can see any provider (network or out-of-network) in the United States, at the same cost share, as long as they accept the plan and have not opted out of Medicare.  If you’re currently being treated by a medical provider who accepts Medicare, you don’t have to change to a different provider.

  • Prescription Drug Coverage - Coverage for all of the drugs covered by Medicare Part D and an additional list of covered drugs through the UnitedHealthcare® RxSupplement plan.

  • Large Network of Pharmacies - More than 68,000 pharmacies in the network, including national and regional retail chains as well as independent neighborhood pharmacies.

  • NurseLine – You’re never alone. Registered nurses answer your call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

  • Renew Rewards –   Earn rewards for taking an active role in your health and wellness by completing certain health care activities.

  • SilverSneakers® – Free fitness membership that includes group exercise classes, workouts, and basic membership at 13,000+ fitness locations,   Check www.silversneakers.com for a location near you.

  • Voluntary HouseCalls – Once a year, an advanced practice clinician will come to you. They will review your health history and medication(s), perform a physical exam, identify health risks and provide educational information. Participation in this program is strictly voluntary.
