As the Great Depression ravaged the nation, Albert McRill desperately worked to protect Oklahoma City and its inhabitants.

Hearing the condemnation of alleged “Hoovervilles”nation-wide, McRill decided to act. He leased 52 acres of land near the North Canadian River for the new “Community Camp.” Furnished with utilities, water lines, and sewage facilities, the community offered jobs, a schoolhouse for children, and houses available at an affordable rent. This action provided victims of the Great Depression the opportunity to regain their lives.

McRill is known for his politically-revealing novel, “And Satan Came Also,” that explored the underworld of politics and crime.
