DW Gibbs

David Williams Gibbs was an architect from Ohio. On May 2, 1890 Congress passed the Organic Act for the Territory of Oklahoma, which set regulations for legally establishing counties and cities. A newly formed County Commission appointed Gibbs to a Board of Trustees, along with T.J. Watson, Nelson Button, Sam Frist, and Henry Overholser, who organized the first election for City officers on August 9, 1890. Now officially incorporated and divided into four wards, the City of Oklahoma City was governed by five officers, Mayor, Police Judge, City Clerk, Treasurer, and Engineer; and represented by two council members for each ward.
