The Office of the Mayor can issue proclamations and citations requested by local individuals and organizations. These documents often recognize long-running events, commemorations or awareness opportunities sponsored by local nonprofits or community volunteers. Such documents generally have a specific tie to a local event, organization or individual. These documents do not create policy but merely draw attention to commemorations that are broadly understood to be important to our community.
These documents are signed solely by the Mayor and only the Mayor can approve the issuance of such documents. Sometimes these documents are merely provided to a requestor and sometimes they are presented at an event by the Mayor or a city official or other representative. Generally, these documents must be picked up at City Hall when they are ready.
Requestors are asked below to provide contact information and draft language for the document. The Office of the Mayor will notify the requestor if their proclamation or citation has been approved for creation. Though we can occasionally make special accommodations under extenuating circumstances, the Office of the Mayor staff is limited and we ask that requests be made two months in advance of the date the requestor wishes to receive the document.
If you have additional questions, please contact the Office of the Mayor at 405-297-2424 or mayor@okc.gov.
