OKC Parks hiring lifeguards for indoor aquatic centers
The Oklahoma City Parks and Recreation Department is hiring 25 lifeguards to work year-round at the indoor Family Aquatic Center located at the newly opened Willa D. Johnson Recreation Center, 909 Frederick Douglass Ave., and the hybrid fitness pool at the Pete White Health and Wellness Center.

Oklahoma City’s August sales and use tax report shows combined General Fund collections were above this month last year and above the combined monthly projection. The General Fund pays for the City’s day-to-day operations. Sales tax is the General Fund’s largest single source of revenue.

Oklahoma City initiates inspections for water service line inventory
The Oklahoma City Utilities Department has launched a pilot study to inspect and inventory 8,500 public and private water service lines. The initiative is being carried out in accordance with the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) requirement for all water systems.

Animal Welfare waives dog and cat adoption fees to relieve overcapacity
Oklahoma City Animal Welfare encourages everyone to adopt a dog or cat this month from the OKC Animal Shelter. In celebration of Clear the Shelters Month, the Animal Shelter is waiving adoption fees for all dogs and cats until Aug. 26.

OKC seeks input on updated cycling and pedestrian master plan
Oklahoma City residents and trail users are invited to give their feedback on proposed updates to the City’s comprehensive bike and pedestrian plan, bikewalkokc. People can visit okc.gov/bikewalkokc to read the 137-page draft plan and submit comments through Sept. 15.

Animal Shelter to temporarily close Sundays and Mondays
Because of staffing capacity issues, the Oklahoma City Animal Shelter will temporarily close Sundays and Mondays until recently hired employees can complete onboarding. This change takes effect Sunday, Aug. 13.

OKC residents can contact the Action Center to report code violations and non-emergency issues
To keep 911 phone lines clear for people experiencing emergencies, the City asks residents to report non-emergency issues to the Action Center. Besides getting answers to questions about City services and reporting code violations, residents can also report suspected criminal activity.

Council accepts School Resource Officer contract with Oklahoma City Public Schools
On Tuesday, August 1, the Oklahoma City Council approved the School Resource Officer (SRO) contract with Oklahoma City Public Schools (OKCPS) for the 2023-24 school year. It requires the Oklahoma City Police Department (OKCPD) to provide school resource officers for OKCPS schools.

OKC Animal Shelter to reopen for adoptions only July 21-23; limited intake begins July 24
Oklahoma City’s Animal Shelter invites residents and animal lovers to its reopening adoption weekend July 21-23. All adoptable dogs and cats are up-to-date on vaccinations, microchipped, treated for worms and spayed or neutered. About 200 dogs and 10 cats are available for adoption.
