Debbie Miller selected as City’s next Public Works Director
City Manager Craig Freeman announced this week the hiring of Assistant City Engineer Debbie Miller, P.E. to be the City’s next Public Works Director/City Engineer, effective immediately. She is the first female Public Works Director/City Engineer in Oklahoma City’s history.

City Council confirms members of the Community Public Safety Advisory Board
During the Feb. 13 City Council meeting, Oklahoma City Mayor David Holt appointed and the City Council confirmed eight of nine people to serve on the newly formed Community Public Safety Advisory Board. The board is a permanent, independent committee that reviews the complaint investigative process.

New ordinance allows greater flexibility for muralists to “paint away”
Thanks to today’s sign code ordinance adoption, the City of Oklahoma City makes it easier than ever for artists to create murals. Most murals will no longer require a permit and will not need to be reviewed by the City’s Art Commission.

New ordinance requires property owners to fix dilapidated outdoor signs
To beautify business corridors and neighborhoods citywide, Oklahoma City Council adopted sign codes on Feb.13 that require property owners to better maintain their outdoor signage.

OKC to allow temporary signs in the City’s right of way with a permit
The City of Oklahoma City will start allowing temporary signs to be placed in many City rights of ways with a permit starting March 15. The City’s right of way is typically the area between the street curb and the sidewalk and includes medians and alleys.

OKC Street crews ready to treat snow routes
Oklahoma City Street crews are monitoring the weather ahead of snow and ice forecast for Central Oklahoma on Sunday and Monday. Trucks mounted with plows and salt spreaders are ready to respond if snow or ice begins to accumulate along the City’s snow routes.

HUD awards OKC $7.1 million in homelessness aid
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) announced today it is awarding Oklahoma City with $7.1 million in grants to provide housing for people experiencing homelessness. The award is $2.4 million more than last year’s grant.

City looking to hire trade positions during Feb. 13 hiring event

Passenger numbers continue to increase at WRWA
Will Rogers World Airport (WRWA) served 4,400,049 airline passengers in 2023, which was an increase of more than 11% from 2022, which had 3,951,333 passengers. The numbers came close to matching 2019 passenger numbers of 4,418,749, which are the highest on record.

Portion of North Western Avenue closed for water line repair
The southbound lanes of N. Western Ave. between NW 138th and NW 142nd Streets will be closed to traffic while crews with the Oklahoma City Utilities Department repair a 12” water main. Northbound traffic will be narrowed to one lane to allow for southbound traffic.

One day census to count people who are experiencing homelessness in Oklahoma City
The City of Oklahoma City and the Homeless Alliance organize the survey, called the Point in Time Count. Teams of people from homeless service providers will visit shelters, hot meal programs and encampments to count and survey people experiencing homelessness.

Oklahoma City moves Monday trash and recycling service to Wednesday, January 24
The City of Oklahoma City has postponed trash and recycling service for Monday, Jan. 22 due to hazardous road conditions. Customers who have regular Monday trash service need to set their carts out on Wednesday, Jan 24. Carts should be at the curb no later than 6 a.m.
