Utilities Department MenuYour Tap Water
The Oklahoma City Utilities Department treats and delivers an average of 100 million gallons of water every day to over 1.4 million people from 17 communities in Central Oklahoma. Our high-quality water is vital for public health and safety, economic growth and everyday quality of life.
Our Regulatory Management group ensures we remain in full compliance with all guidelines for safe drinking water from the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality (ODEQ).
Keeping our customers informed about their tap water is an essential part of our service. How do we do that?
Drinking Water Quality Report
Each year, we publish our Drinking Water Quality Report, aka the Consumer Confidence Report (CCR). The CCR details the steps we take to ensure the water we deliver meets the test for safety as regulated by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality (ODEQ). The CCR includes information about 24 regulated contaminants, including biological matter and minerals that originate in the ground or are naturally transferred through raw water sources, along with disinfectants and additives used to make water safe to drink.
Each report linked below corresponds to the testing data from the prior calendar year.
Lead-Safe OKC
In October 2024, we launched Lead-Safe OKC, in keeping with the new Federal Guidelines from the EPA related to lead in public and private service lines. There is no lead in the water that leaves our two treatment plants, nor is there lead in any of the mains (large pipes) within the City's water distribution system.
Lead is typically only detected in water that has traveled through lead service lines, galvanized lines downstream from lead lines, or copper lines with lead solder, lead jonits or lead fittings. Find out more about what causes lead in drinking water, and check to see if your public or private service lines are lead-free.
PFAS/PFOS
Known as "Forever Chemicals," per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (aka PFAS/PFOS) are contaminants of concern as designated by the EPA. These chemicals are largely found in flame retardants and fire-resistant materials, some non-stick cookware, stain-resisant coatings and other common household goods. Read more about these contaminants and about Oklahoma City's testing protocols.
