Recycle Right OKC
We've taught you what to recycle, now here's a primer on what NOT to do.
- DON'T BAG YOUR RECYCLABLES. Instead, place all items loose in your Big Green recycling cart.
- DON'T use your Big Green recycle cart for regular household trash, yard waste, or construction trash. It is for recycling only.
- DON'T toss in items that contain food or liquids. Make sure all items are empty, clean and dry.
Recycling DONT's:
Other items that cannot be recycled:
- PAPERS: paper towels, toilet paper, disposable diapers, paper napkins, coffee cups or any paper good that is wet or stuck with food residue, toxins, human waste, oil or grease.
- PLASTICS such as plastic grocery bags, bread or newspaper/magazine wrappings, kitchen wrap or bubble wrap, cereal bags, pet food or other flexible bags, garden hoses, string lights, household storage containers, or CD cases, and plastic party goods such as "Red" or other-colored cups, and plastic forks, knives, spoons, etc.
- GLASS PRODUCTS including window or automotive glass, mirrors, heat-resistant kitchen glass (e.g. Pyrex or similar glass items used in baking), light bulbs or nail polish bottles
- ALUMINUM or steel: Automotive parts, scrap metal, garage door panels, propane tanks, metal hangers, or pots and pans
- Medical waste, including plastic syringes, sharps, and medications of any kind
- Clothing, sheets, towels or other textiles
- Ceramics such as dishware or garden pots
- Tires
- Hazardous waste such as pool chemicals, paint, paint thinners, acids, caustics and other hazardous chemicals. Take those to our Household Hazardous Waste facility.
