2023 resident survey shows OKC is setting the national standard as a place to live, work and retire
Satisfaction with Oklahoma City as a place to live, work, raise children, visit and retire is significantly above the national average according to results from the City’s annual survey administered in July by surveyor, ETC Institute.

The Willa D. Johnson Recreation Center, 909 Fredrick Douglas Ave., is hosting our fall film series with “Sing 2” on Friday, Oct. 6, at 6:30 p.m. This event is free for the entire family. Martin Park’s Rise and Shine Kayaking adventure will be held Saturday, Oct. 7, at 9 a.m.

Local artists showcase sculptures along Linwood Boulevard as part of Strong Neighborhoods Initiative
As part of the City of Oklahoma City’s Strong Neighborhoods Initiative (SNI), the Metro Park Neighborhood Association selected three local artists for public art in the median along Linwood Boulevard. Metro Park adopted the triangle at North Western Avenue and Linwood Diagonal.

OKC Parks hiring lifeguards for indoor aquatic centers
The Oklahoma City Parks and Recreation Department is hiring 25 lifeguards to work year-round at the indoor Family Aquatic Center located at the newly opened Willa D. Johnson Recreation Center, 909 Frederick Douglass Ave., and the hybrid fitness pool at the Pete White Health and Wellness Center.

City offers free landfill day for OKC residential trash customers on Saturday, September 9

Oklahoma City initiates inspections for water service line inventory
The Oklahoma City Utilities Department has launched a pilot study to inspect and inventory 8,500 public and private water service lines. The initiative is being carried out in accordance with the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) requirement for all water systems.

OKC seeks input on updated cycling and pedestrian master plan
Oklahoma City residents and trail users are invited to give their feedback on proposed updates to the City’s comprehensive bike and pedestrian plan, bikewalkokc. People can visit okc.gov/bikewalkokc to read the 137-page draft plan and submit comments through Sept. 15.

OKC residents can contact the Action Center to report code violations and non-emergency issues
To keep 911 phone lines clear for people experiencing emergencies, the City asks residents to report non-emergency issues to the Action Center. Besides getting answers to questions about City services and reporting code violations, residents can also report suspected criminal activity.

Portion of North Meridian Avenue closed for repairs after water main break
A section of N Meridian Avenue from NW 53rd to NW 60th Street will be closed for about two weeks while City crews make needed repairs after a 24-inch water main broke in the area, causing significant damage to a portion of the street.

OKC Parks brings musical ‘Godspell’ to outdoor amphitheater
Oklahoma City Parks & Recreation brings the Broadway hit “Godspell” to the Will Rogers Park Amphitheater in Will Rogers Park, 3400 N Portland Ave. Exit Pat Murphy Drive from North Portland Avenue or North Grand Boulevard. The show runs from 8-10 p.m. July 5-9.

Oklahoma City releases water quality report
The City’s annual Drinking Water Quality Report, known as the Consumer Confidence Report (CCR), shows that water tested during 2022 met the requirements from the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality (ODEQ).

Call for volunteers for urban heat mapping campaign, workshops planned
The City of Oklahoma City is seeking hundreds of volunteers to be a part of a national campaign to map extreme heat in urban areas. More than 300 people are needed to capture temperature and air quality data across the city along predetermined routes.

The community is invited to attend the grand opening for the Willa D. Johnson Recreation Center, 909 Fredrick Douglass Ave., from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. July 15. The $17.5 million state-of-the-art recreation center is named after former Ward 7 Councilwoman Willa D. Johnson.

City web portal defaced, staff working to relaunch
The City’s Information Technology Department became aware of the image shortly after it was posted and took the site offline to investigate. There is currently no evidence data was accessed or compromised. We are working to relaunch affected services, which include permitting, licensing, and the Act

Oklahoma City Parks hosts “Family Tree” Golf Tournament on Father’s Day weekend
Golfers of all ages and skill levels are invited to celebrate Father’s Day weekend with their families by playing in Oklahoma City’s Parks Department’s first multigenerational golf tournament at Lake Hefner Golf Club, 4491 Lake Hefner Dr., on Saturday, June 17.
