The Willa D. Johnson Recreation Center, 909 Fredrick Douglas Ave., is hosting our fall film series with “Sing 2” on Friday, Oct. 6, at 6:30 p.m. This event is free for the entire family. Martin Park’s Rise and Shine Kayaking adventure will be held Saturday, Oct. 7, at 9 a.m.

As part of the City of Oklahoma City’s Strong Neighborhoods Initiative (SNI), the Metro Park Neighborhood Association selected three local artists for public art in the median along Linwood Boulevard. Metro Park adopted the triangle at North Western Avenue and Linwood Diagonal.

The Oklahoma City Parks and Recreation Department is hiring 25 lifeguards to work year-round at the indoor Family Aquatic Center located at the newly opened Willa D. Johnson Recreation Center, 909 Frederick Douglass Ave., and the hybrid fitness pool at the Pete White Health and Wellness Center.

The Oklahoma City Utilities Department has launched a pilot study to inspect and inventory 8,500 public and private water service lines. The initiative is being carried out in accordance with the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) requirement for all water systems.

To keep 911 phone lines clear for people experiencing emergencies, the City asks residents to report non-emergency issues to the Action Center. Besides getting answers to questions about City services and reporting code violations, residents can also report suspected criminal activity.

A section of N Meridian Avenue from NW 53rd to NW 60th Street will be closed for about two weeks while City crews make needed repairs after a 24-inch water main broke in the area, causing significant damage to a portion of the street.
