In 2020, 90 people age 24 or younger in Oklahoma City were experiencing homelessness on the night of the Point in Time Count. About 1 in 5 were living in places not fit for human habitation.

5. Transitional Age Youth (TAY) Services  

  • 5.A: Transitional Housing and Services for Transitional Age Youth

Transitional Age Youth (TAY) are people ages 16-25 who are unaccompanied by a guardian or spouse, or are with their own children. Providing services at this crucial age can provide foundational support for a lifetime. Read the entire section here (pages 72-73 of the full report).

5.A: Transitional Housing and Services for Transitional Age Youth

Supportive transitional housing for youth not ready to live independently can help people develop life skills, go to school or secure a job. Successful programs use low- or no-barrier access models and provide specialized services for vulnerable populations.

In Oklahoma City, the strategy should be to expand existing transitional housing and services for youth, include youth in the programming for those projects, and standardize assessments and programming among all youth service organizations.
